Kimono antique fabric artist × Zenlab Hinamatsuri
This time, we collaborated with a kimono antiques artist. We focused on the "sustainability" that is now in the spotlight, reusing antique kimonos to create new things!
Hinamatsuri is a traditional Japanese event that heralds the arrival of spring and prays for the healthy growth of girls. This time, I planned a unique collaboration that combines the spirituality of the tea ceremony with the decorations of Hinamatsuri in the quiet space of a Japanese-style room. The dolls displayed in the tea room are not just ordinary dolls. They are collaborations with an artist who creates adorable little dolls made from old kimono fabric and the delicate clothing worn by Ichimatsu dolls.
The works she creates are more than just decorative objects. Each piece of old cloth is imbued with a story that evokes history, breathing new life into it. The kimonos of Ichimatsu dolls are characterized by their colorful and intricate patterns, transporting viewers to the good old days.
This collaboration is an attempt to harmonize tradition and innovation (sustainability). The small doll made of antique cloth quietly accompanies the tea ceremony, further highlighting the Japanese aesthetic sense. As guests sip their tea, they will be drawn to the atmosphere of the antique cloth and the doll dressed in it.
As we sit on the comfortable tatami mats of a Japanese-style room and feel the breath of spring, we rediscover the richness of the culture that has been passed down since ancient times. This collaboration, which reflects traditional beauty in the modern era, is sure to be enjoyed by many people as a new way to celebrate Hinamatsuri.
