Time for yourself. Space to share.

Read with family nearby, make tea or welcome a friend.

A new place in a familiar room.
Zenlab Room brings a distinct place into the room you already have—for reading, making tea or spending time together. Made to order in timber, tatami and paper, it gives everyday moments a setting of their own, without closing them off from the life around you.

Make tea. Arrange a flower. Open a book. Take your time with familiar things.

Write, draw or enjoy music, with everyday life continuing nearby.

Read with a child. Invite a friend for tea. Make an ordinary afternoon an occasion.
The base model shown, Standard Open, uses fixed shoji and fusuma panels rather than sliding doors, keeping the structure simple and visually light.

Open sides, easy connection Step in from the surrounding room; its views and company stay with you.
Joinery, fully visible Interlocking Nagara sugi gives the frame both its structure and its distinctive rhythm.
Four squares, one tatami floor Four borderless mats form a continuous floor for sitting and gathering, their woven surfaces catching the light in subtle shades.
Shoji, alive with daylight Light-filtering paper catches the changing light from morning to evening.
Half open, half shoji Overhead, an opening and a shoji panel bring direct and filtered light into the space.
Dark fusuma, quiet contrast A deep-toned paper surface anchors the composition against pale timber and tatami.
Actual product details may differ from the images shown.
Zenlab brought Gifu makers together to adapt timber, paper and tatami for this open interior. Each contributes to the experience: the grain of the frame, the light through the shoji, the floor beneath you.

Nagara sugi, cedar from Gifu’s Nagara River basin, forms the exposed frame. Its grain and interlocking connections give the structure a rhythm you can see from inside and out.
Kawaryu
A timber-building practice rooted in Japanese architectural craft, shaping the frame for Zenlab Room.

Light passes through the shoji; the dark fusuma provides a contrasting surface. Shogetsudo brings paper craft to these fixed panels, giving each its distinct character.
Koji Kurita
At the workshop founded in 1920, Kurita practises hyōgu: mounting and finishing work for scrolls, screens and interiors.

Tatami invites you to sit close to the materials, whether preparing tea or spending time together.
Suzaku-ken
Drawing on tea practice, Suzaku-ken helps shape how the materials and activities belong together.
